Forgot to mention that I got a brief shout-out in the Chicago Tribune this last weekend:
Jon Evans seems to spend most of his time backpacking in places (Zimbabwe, the Balkans, Iraq) that even the most intrepid of us tend to avoid. Evans also finds time to write strong, politically motivated thrillers. His second paperback original, "The Blood Price" (Dark Alley/HarperCollins, $13.95), drops his alter ego, Paul Wood, into Bosnia, where people-smuggling has become a lucrative, dangerous way of life.
which makes me sound like an Intrepid Adventurer rather than a lazy occasional nomad, but hey, misinterpretation in my favour, I suppose.
One of the things I don't like about LJ is its first-draft nature. In general, anything I write will benefit from a thorough going-over a couple days later, my last post in particular, (and, having written it, this post too) but there doesn't seem much point in doing so in LJ's now-now-now world.

If there's a lesson in Zimbabwe, I think it's this: progress is highly evitable. Places that once had bright futures can and do decline and fall.
